Giving us an example to follow. The Samaritans rejected him because of their own religious ideas. Even now people will reject the true gospel because of their own views and selfish desires. James and John wanted to destroy the Samaritans out of a desire for revenge at the slight against their Messiah. Jesus rebuked them, knowing the motives of their hearts were not in line with His Gospel. Jesus came not to destroy mens lives but to save them.
