Strength for Today ~ Carol Diechert

It’s not wrong to be afraid of what you see could happen.  What’s wrong is not to seek God’s help immediately and humble yourself in worship before him.  Things that we perceive as bad: i.e.; death, sickness, financial trouble, weather disasters can and will serve a purpose if we’re willing to throw ourselves totally into the arms of our Creator and trust.  It’s only through the power of the Holy Spirit that this kind of submission can happen.  The absolute trust that enables us to experience the great depth of God’s love for us.

I looked back in the Old Testament to when King Hezekiah was in power.  He knew the King of Assyria was going to attack Jerusalem.  He gathered the people together and reminded them that no matter the size of the army against them, God was bigger. He told them this: 2 Chronicles 32:8 “Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the King of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is greater power with us then with him.  With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God gained confidence from what Hezekiah, the king of Judah said.”

We too, can have this great confidence and strength through the power of the Holy Spirit.  God is greater than and army.  He’s greater than anything we are facing.  Through the power of the Holy Spirit we can face the worst mountain imaginable.  1 John 4:4 “You dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you in greater than the one who is in the world.”

We need to remember that when we acknowledge the power of the Lord and praise God for His goodness and love even in the midst of terrifying and troubled times, there is far more power with us then with the enemy.  Satan love to derail us and push us away from the peace that can be ours.  We need to keep focused on Jesus.  Isaiah 26:3-4 “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.  Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord in the rock eternal.”

That sounds a little bit idealistic in the world, but if we take the Bible and truly believe everything that’s written in there is the sovereign Word of God, therefore totally the truth we can claim this promise.  It doesn’t mean that we won’t feel pain or experience hardship and sometimes go through deep valleys.  We live in a fallen world and these are expected.  Jesus, Himself is our example.  He was not spared pain and discomfort.  In the Garden of Gethsemane, He sweat drops of blood ad He prayed ~ Luke 22: 42-43 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but thing be done.”  As angel from Heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him.

Even suffering His greatest anguish Jesus in His human form, He knew what to do.  He ran to the loving arms of His father and He was given the strength for the task of ahead of Him.  God, the Father had the plan of salvation for mankind in mind and Jesus yielded to His Father’s will and paid the ultimate price.  He gave His life.  If Jesus, in His human form was given the strength to do His Father’s will, so we too can claim this same strength?  We need to remember when we are Born again (Have asked the Lord into our hearts and decided to live for him) we are not only forgiven we are His treasure.  The holy Sprit if with us.  Therefore we can claim His promise of peace.  The peace that He will be there, that He will give strength, that He will wrap us in His love, that He will b e our rock and our shield through the fiercest of storms and yes, even send an angel if that’s what we need.

May God continue to give each one of us strength to continue in the path that’s before us.  May we always remember to turn to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father to obtain guidance for today and the future.  May we keep our eyes focused on the one who sacrificed so much for us.
